Hi,
We're back from our winter break and set for hard work. We are now revising everything we've learnt so far and getting set for our final test.
Why so early in the year you may ask? Because we're taking our B2 Exams this May so we need to start preparing and using actual tests and past papers as early as possible.
The question to be answered now for and by each of us is: What exam to take, which suits me best?
There are a lot of exams we can actually take part in at this level, delivered by different Universities and using different methodology and activities to test the candidate's level.
We asked our teacher for help and here's what she told us.
First the differences:
It is true that some Certificates have existed in Greece for longer so more people know them. However, we need to remember that what matters most is what suits us best. Besides, the B2 level Certificate is a step to our final goal C2 (Proficiency), so we only want success and not experimentation!
Thanks for the info, Mrs Kyrikakis
So, what we'll do now is write a mock test in each of the above exams to have first-hand experience of what they're like and then choose what best suits us.
Wish us success!

First the differences:
- Some use productive exercises such as open-ended questions and gap filling (Cambridge FCE). Other tests use multiple choice questions for all the parts of the exam (ESB, Michigan ECCE).
- In Cambridge FCE and Michigan ECCE candidates complete each part of the exam within a specific time limit, while in ESB you're given 2.30h to use as it suits you.
- ESB and Michigan ECCE ask for one composition, Cambridge FCE gives you more time but asks for two.
- Each certificate has a different pass rate and way of evaluation method.
- They all demand from the candidates to be Independent Users of the language.
- They are all recognised by the Greek State.
